Cloth diapering – What about the poop?

Like I said in my review of AppleCheeks diapers I have been cloth diapering for about 9-10 months now and love it. I love it so much that I just added some new diapers to my stash – in fact I’m sitting here waiting anxiously for the UPS man, but I’ll talk more about these later. Right now I want to talk about a Mom’s favorite subject, POOP. I swear I have never in my 34 years talked about or thought about poop as much as I have in the last 14 months. When was the last time she pooped? Is she pooping too much or little? Is it to solid or runny? The questions go on and on but the most pressing one for a cloth diaperer is what do you do with it once it’s in a diaper?

Diaper sprayer

See the silver thing attached to the toilet? It’s a diaper sprayer. Do me a favor and don’t look at the dirty floor, I cleaned it right after I took the shot. That sprayer is what makes poopy cloth diapers a non-issue. You hold the diaper over the toilet and use the sprayer to knock the poop off. The sprayer eliminates the need to dunk and swish the diaper in the toilet. The diaper sprayer takes just a couple of minutes to install and take out if necessary and best of all requires no tools.

My diaper sprayer started leaking a few months ago so Waldo unhooked it. I contacted the manufacture through their website, they responded by the next day and asked me what the problem was. Well by this time I had forgotten where the leak was coming from so Waldo hooked the sprayer back up. When he turned it on the little handle shot off and water sprayed Waldo, the walls and the floor. It was pretty funny and I’m really glad that he’s such a good sport. I emailed Gene from Mini Shower and let them know, they asked for pictures because it wasn’t something they had heard of before. I sent the pictures and they shipped a replacement that day. I hooked the new sprayer up right after it got delivered and Lily put it to the test because she’s helpful like that. During the month or two that my sprayer was broken (because I’m a professional procrastinator and it took me forever to figure out what to do about it) I almost quit cloth diapering because it was so frustrating to deal with the poop.

**This isn’t a sponsored post, I just really believe in the diaper sprayer and want other people to know how cool they are.

More pantry potions

I stole the term Pantry Potions from C of Random Thought and Musing from the Island, I hope she doesn’t mind.  C let me know if you do and I’ll come up with something else, but it won’t be as good.

People were so interested in baking soda from my last Mama time (pantry potion) post that I thought I’d throw a few more things out there.

I took a bath last night and figured I’d try to do something nice for my skin while I was shaving so I dumped about a cup of baking soda into the warm water. It’s such a small thing but really makes me feel nice and soft when I get out. If I had any of my essential oils handy I would have added a few drops of lavender for relaxation.

Before I took my bath I sprinkled baking soda all over the tub and got my sponge wet and scrubbed. It worked really well to clean my tub. I am going to see how it handles the sink tomorrow. I’m on the look out for good working safe non-toxic cleaners and so far haven’t liked the one I see more often; vinegar in a spray bottle with some water.

If your hair is a little greasy but you don’t have time to wash it right away you can sprinkle a little baking soda in it and then shake it out and brush it well and you should be good to go. the baking soda will absorb the grease. It’s a really good cheap alternative to expensive dry shampoos. I’ve used this a few times when I had extremely long hair and it worked pretty well. As I have darker hair I had to make sure I got it all out so I shook it and then toweled it off too.

Time is speading up

I swear that time must be on fastforward or something because I swear I have a teenager all of the sudden.

Big girl

Seriously I had just gotten Lily dressed in a outfit that hadn’t fit before and it was finally warm enough for her to wear, I put her on the bed so she could play with my old phone and when I turned around she just looked so damn grown up. Look at those pictures, she’s not a baby anymore. I don’t know when this happened.

Big girl

She is darn cute though.

She’s giving Kitty her kissy face. I had to check for my pulse after this one, she kills me with the cuteness.

15 month old feet

I realized I hadn’t taken any baby feet pictures in a long time.

I always (as I’m sure all of you have too) heard that time flies but I just didn’t realize that I couldn’t close my eyes for a millisecond.

Drink

I have only showed Lily the sign for drink a few times and I’m pretty sure the last time I used it was over a week ago. So you can imagine how shocked I was when she toddled up to me today and wiggled her hand in front of her chin and then pointed at my cup.

I should have edited the first part but I just wanted to get it posted. Sorry.

Missed pictures

When I wrote Lily’s 15 month letter I admitted that I missed her 13 and 14 month letter which also means I did post any pictures from those days. So since I feel it’s a crime again humanity to not post really cute Lily pictures here you go.

15 months old

Lily Bean,

Monday you turned 15 months old and you are just as incredible to me today as you were 15 months ago. I’m sorry that I didn’t write a 13 or 14 month letter, what can I say, you keep me really busy.

15 months old

I have so much to say about you, I don’t know where to start. In no particular order here are the things about you that amaze and entertain me.

  • You have started playing by yourself for pretty long periods of time. You’ll crawl down off my lap and find some toys that keep you entertained for up to 45 minutes.  It’s not usually that long but sometimes it is.
  • You walk!  It is so cute to see you toddle all around the living room.  You still crawl a lot but I’d say you walk a good 50% of the time now.
  • You are a great eater and love feeding yourself.  Squash is still your favorite but you love just about all veggie, I hope it stays like this.
  • You are using the sign for more as food pretty regularly.  It is adorable.  I’ve been signing eat and more since you were about 6 months old  and was thrilled when you started signing back to me.  You have started trying to sign thank you.  I think “thank you” is a little easier for you because it’s very similar to blowing kisses which you are very good at.
  • The other day I told you that we were going to go brush your teeth and you put your finger in your mouth and rubbed it back and forth on your teeth.  I couldn’t believe it.  I thought it was so cool because I’ve never tried to teach you that, you just picked it up from me talking to you about what we do each day.
  • You love to talk on the phone as long as no one is talking back to you.  You will take my phone from me and jabber away, you’ll even do it with toys and remotes.  But as soon as one of your Grandparents want to talk to you on the phone all you do is look at me like “how did you get a person in there?”.
  • You are a little kiss monster.  You love getting kisses from me and Daddy but you love giving us kisses even more.  We were at the grocery store the other day and you made the kissy face at us probably 100 times if not more.  That shopping trip took about twice as long as usual because of all the kisses.
  • You like to put food in  your ears, well really you like to put just about anything inside of other things but for some reason food in your ear is a favorite.  It is so silly

There are probably 1000 more little things I should have included but you change everyday so it’s hard to remember everything you do.

65 weeks old/15 months old

We took you to the doctor for your 15 month well child visit and the doctor was so pleased to see how much you’ve grown and that you are hitting all of your milestones.  At your visit you weighed 18 lbs 9 oz which puts you in the 2.3% which is the highest you’ve been since you were about 1 month old.  Woot!  Your head is 17″ which is 1.81% YAY! And the most amazing of all, you are 29″ long, which means you grew three inches in three months.  I knew you were getting tall because you hit your head when you stand up under my desk now but it is crazy to see it on paper.  Oh and for length you are 12.5%, again that is amazing for you.

65 weeks old/15 months old

Baby girl I love you more then anything and that will never change.

Love,

Mama
