Time for myself

Like most if not all the Mama’s out there I need to take more time for myself and take better care of myself. I used to take bubble baths that I spiked with lovely scents and had a lot of fun making bath salts and other yummy bath goodies. I need to break out my recipes and make some more bath fizzies and face scrubs.

I haven’t made any yummy bath goodies yet but tonight I decided to start small. We just bought a big bag of baking soda from Costco so I went and got a little cup of it and took it in the shower with me. I mixed some of my face cleaner with the baking soda and scrubbed away. My face is so nice and smooth right now, I love it.

Baking soda is a wonderful natural do-it-all product. Like I said I mixed some with my face cleaner tonight. I’ve also use some mixed with a little honey as a great face scrub. Oh a little bit mixed with a couple of un-coated aspirin make a great pore cleaning mask. I could go on and on about this, I won’t today but look for more in the future.

MckLinky Blog Hop- 7-14-09

I keep seeing this MckLinky logo around but didn’t take time to find out what it was all about till this week. It’s pretty cool. Since Mr. Linky is buggy lately this seems like a great replacement and improvement. Rather then have to track down blogs to add your link to like with Mr. Linky you write your post (and they are themed which I like) and link it to the MckLinky site. This week the theme is THREE THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT ME

MckLinky Blog Hop

Hhhmmm I feel like I’m a pretty open book so I’m going to have to strain to come up with a measly three things.

1. In high school I worked in a very high end jewelry store. My Grandma worked there just about all my life and taught me how to string pearl necklaces. It was tedious work, but I loved it. I have pretty much worked nonstop since I was 15 years old. When Lily was first born and I was new to this whole stay at home Mom thing I felt sort of lazy and weird to not be “working”, I no longer feel that way. I work darn hard taking care of Lily.

2. I spent every Wednesday night at my Grandparents house up until high school and then sometimes even after. We were/are very close and I miss them and the rest of my family. This closeness is one reason I waited till I was 32 to have a baby. I now live 1500 miles away and I hate that Lily won’t have that closeness to family that I did growing up. But there is no way in hell I’m moving back to California, just no way. I guess this could have been two things but I’m still going to add a third official thing.

3. I’m a pack rat and lazy but mostly about mail. This adds up to a very messy computer desk. I always have mail stacked up under my monitor stand and on top of my tower. I pay everything online so I don’t know why I have so much dang mail anyway, but I do. Every so often I’ll stack all the mail up and toss some of it but put the rest in a box or a drawer till its so old that I know I won’t need it ever again and then toss it. Its such a waste of time and space, I really need to get better organized. By the way I’m lazy in general, not just about mail. :)

4. Because I want to throw this in, I’m obsessed with pictures of my beautiful girl. I really want to take better pictures so if anyone has any suggestions or knows of good websites I’m all ears and eyes. I can’t afford a great new camera so I’m stuck with what I have for now which is a Sony cyber-shot. It works pretty well but its no DSLR or anything. So because of this obsession here’s another picture or two of Lily.

My Baby’s Mind Monday – 06-22-2009

My friend Tatiana over at It was a Very Good Year started this meme. Each Monday you look inside your baby’s mind and let us know what you find. Be sure to go show her some love.

This is the picture that inspired me this week.

Hi Mama,

I am really starting to like this bouncer thing you bought me.  It has lots of fun things to put in my mouth, but sometimes they go in too far and I don’t like that.  I finally figured out how to turn myself so I can play with the stuff on the other side, I really like that.  I appreciate that you always cheer for me when I make the music start, its funny.

I really like it when you or Daddy sit with me while I play.  Daddy makes the funniest voices.

Sometimes you could put the camera down though.  And the second that you do I’m going to make the cutest face EVER! You almost missed this picture but I figured I’d give you one today.

Love,

Princess Pickle Pants

The other pictures

You know the ones I’m talking about. The ones that don’t make the cut. I take somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-200 pictures a week. Thank goodness for digital cameras and good memory sticks. Of those pictures only half or so are good semiclear shots.  What do you do with the rest?  I save them.  I watched a show (appropriately the second day of vacation two years ago) that said not to delete any pictures because you never know what gem you might find later.  Waldo and I took that to heart and now my pictures folder is bursting with :the other pictures” but that’s ok with me.

I was looking through my latest Lily folder and started laughing.  Some of those pictures are so bad they are great.  So I wanted to share.  I k now it seems crazy.  Usually when a blogger post a slightly blurry shot they apologize and here I am dedicating a whole post to blurry/out of focus/etc pictures.  I guess that’s just me, a little blurry and out of focus.

This next one is my favorite and the one that inspired this post. I think she looks like the “monster” guy from Gooneys

What do you do with your “other pictures”? Do you have any to share? I can promise there will be more here soon.

Aloha Friday 6-12-09

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. I like the idea, therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. Be sure to check Kailani out.

How do you find time to do everything you want/need to do in a day?

I am now a WAHM and I realized I just don’t have time to do everything I want to in a day.  I am so far behind in my blog reader that its scary, I have no idea how or when I’m going to get caught up.  Oh and and then there’s my blog, my poor blog that I hope doesn’t fall through the cracks.  I’m going to work really hard to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Sorry if I haven’t commented lately or if my comments are shorter/less thoughtful then before.

My Baby’s Mind Monday-6-8-09

My friend Tatiana over at It was a Very Good Year started this meme. Each Monday you look inside your baby’s mind and let us know what you find. Be sure to go show her some love.

This is my inspiration picture this week:

crying in the carseat

Dear Mama,

We’ve already been over the whole hatred of tummy time do I really have to tell you how much I hate the car seat? Why oh why do you insist in trapping me in here rather then holding me close like you claim to like so much? I have to admit its kind of fun when Daddy swings me in the car seat but then you guys put me in the back seat all be my lonesome and as a big slap in the face you make me face backwards.

I don’t care how many fun toys (and they are fun, thanks) you hook on it I will still scream 95% of the time we are in the car just to remind you how much I hate it. Sometimes when you sing to me I like that and will give you a little break but most of the time I’m just too mad about being all alone to care about twinkling stars or rowing boats and the marching ants that never do the same thing twice.

You try hard to convince me that the seat is the “safe” way to travel but I’m super skeptical. I mean you and Daddy don’t use them, why should I? And stop telling me to take a nap in it. I don’t want to go to sleep, I might miss something.

I do appreciate that you and Daddy take me out when we get to the store. I really like looking around at people and I really like it when people stop us and remind you how cute I am. But then you put me back in it when we go to leave, its not fair!

Love,
Lily

Aloha Friday 6-3-09

As a renter, when you move out of a place do you super clean it or do you just do the say bathroom and kitchen?

If anyone is a landlord what do you expect?

As followers of this blog know we just moved.  We knew I wouldn’t really be able to do much because of Lily so we enlisted the help of some friends.  We paid them to help so they were willing to go just about as far as I wanted.   But by half way through the day they were all telling me that no one cleans as much as I wanted and no one expects it.  I wanted wall washed and the carpets cleaned and the whole nine yards.  We comprimised on a few points but overall I got my way.  So I want to know what others do.

Girl Talk Thursday-Booze

Mommy Melee started Girl Talk Thursday. Go show her some love and check out Mr. Linky.

Booze, booze and more booze is the topic this week.

I am not a big drinker, that isn’t to say that I don’t drink.  Oh how I love me some vodka with cranberry and lemon drops and a few others that I’m too sober to name right now.  I’ve had a glass of wine or two that I really enjoyed.  However I hate beer, I haven’t found one that I want to take more then a sip of.

I don’t like to drink hard stuff at home, I prefer a half empty bar (I don’t like big crowds).  At home I can never get the drinks to taste right.  We have wine at the house every once in a while but I’d rather have wine at a restaurant.  I’m just weird like that.

Since I’ve been pregnant and am now breastfeeding I haven’t had any booze in over a year.  Alchoal has never been that important to me.  I didn’t have my first taste till after my 21st birthday and wouldn’t know that I like vodka with cranberry if it weren’t for my buddy Orglif.

Orglif lived in my spare room for a while and we would go downtown during the week when his favorite bar was nice and quiet.  We’d have a drink or 12, play some pool and chat with the regulars.  It was fun.  Once Orglif moved out I didn’t have a desire to keep going out on my own, that seemed like it would be no fun.  Besides who was going to make sure I got home safely and watch Eurotrip with me for the 150th time.  We have watched that movie so many times we know just were to fast forward because those parts just aren’t funny enough.
