Nautilus, cuttlefish, and puffins. Oh my.

We have spent just about every Sunday for the past two months going go a combination of the Zoo, the Aquarium, the Discovery Center (science museum) and Botanical Gardens. It has been so much fun.

The last time we went to the aquarium I noticed the Nautilus for the first time. I was mesmerized by them. I took probably over 100 pictures and a video of them. Waldo had to just about drag me away by my arm. There was just something so amazing, intriguing and down right weird about this creature. One was just stuck to the side of the tank, but the other one was putting on a show for me. Lily had no interest and neither did Waldo, but I loved it.

Here’s a pretty long (probably boring) video of the nautilus moving around.

The tank next to the Nautilus was the cuttlefish tank. This little tiny guys are so cute and amazing. They were walking on the bottom of the tank on their little flipper things and they had little ruffley tutu looking things.

Please mute your computer before you watch this cuttlefish video. Waldo and I were talking about the cute little guys before I started recording and we didn’t stop.

After Waldo pulled me away from the nautilus and cuttlefish we looked around at all of the other fish and even let Lil feed some. I don’t like bugs and slimy things so I was very happy when Waldo helped Lil touch the feeding stuff so I didn’t have to touch anything gross.

We were there first thing in the morning so these guys were very happy to be getting fed.

Lil had all of the fish cornered in one little spot because she was just tossing the food in. When some other kids showed up Waldo had Lil toss some of the little shrimpys in front of them so some of the fish would go their way.

These were the food for the puffins and lionfish. See, super gross.

We didn’t end up feeding the lionfish because the staff was doing some work on their tank. Here’s a picture of one just because they are pretty though.

We also saw lots of other creatures. Like the itty bitty teeny tiniest baby chameleons. So cute!

And Spot Prawns, but I’m pretty sure he’d tell you he was a king prawn.

And an octopus. He’s the thing in the back corner that looks like a rock. Camouflage is amazing.

See now he’s eye or some other thing is open.

Sharks and rays.

And of course* the seahorses; which have grown a ton since the aquarium opened in December.

While all of the other creatures were neat/pretty/etc my hands down favorite is the nautilus.  Go find one of your own to look upon and I’m betting you will understand too.

* And of course is a total Lilyisms and I think it is so super cute.
