Aloha Friday 5-1-09

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. I like the idea, therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Cloth or disposables or a combination?

Lily is finally big enough to fit in the BumGenius 3.0’s I bought when I was pregnant.  Up till the other day she’s worn 99.999% disposables.

She wore cloth all day yesterday with no problems.  Last night for bed I put her in one of my AppleCheeks pocket diapers and added a doubler.  She still managed to leak big time.  Tonight I’ll try the BG’s and see if she leaks.  If she does I’m thinking about using disposables at night unless I can come up with anything else.  I just don’t see how I can pad the cloths anymore though.  Her poor legs already spread from the regular insert and the doubler.

  1. I used Disposable when she was new born. Then at about 6 months I switch to cloth. I found at that point the BMs were not that bad. However when we went out Disposable were used. Cloth is better for potty training the new disposables keep them from the wet feeling. Which make them want to use the potty.

  2. I used disposable for all three of my littles -Huggies- But i did have frieds who used cloth and they raved about them 🙂
I hope you can find what you need for night time.

  3. Disposables. We thought about cloth, but we weren’t quite willing to take that leap, particularly living in an apartment building where we pay $1.75 to wash & $1.50 to dry. Cloth diaper services didn’t seem like a bad idea either, but it was just as cost-effective to purchase disposables.

  4. We have used mostly disposables. I did get a gift certificate for cloth diapering service, and I used it for about 4 months. Once the credit ran out I quit and switched back to disposables. With 2 little ones to diaper at once it just got to be too much hassle for me to handle. I had enough to deal with without the extra steps involved to cloth diapering. I think if I had just one baby though, I probably would have stuck with it. I will say, there is certainly a learning curve to cloth diapering, and it took a while for me to figure out how to get the covers on just right so they wouldn’t leak.

  5. A combination of both 🙂 We have two dozen cloth diapers for Little One, but she’s still too small for them. Though our preemie is now 8 lbs, 5 oz, she’s very tiny!

  6. We’ve only used disposables…so far. We like Pampers, but Huggies seem to work pretty well too. My oldest daughter was out of diapers by age 2 and I’m hoping that will be the case with our baby as well… 🙂

  7. We use mostly cloth. I have some disposables that we use when we go out, but I’m trying to get away from that. I recently bought some BG3.0s and I love them! A few more of those and I think I will use those when we go out and about.

  8. WE are a cloth family all the way (started out with sposies on my son and once I switched I have never looked back!). I just want to suggest that you try a Dream-eze fitted for at night (with a tri-fold doubler), you can also add a stay dry layer of fleece (between babe and diaper to keep her skin dry)- cover it with wool or fleece and you will be amazed! That is our go to night solution (as well as that of many cloth mamas I know) and we LOVE it! You can find Dream-eze at Naturalbabycompany.com- I think they may even have some on sale right now!

By the way, I will be having lots of features about cloth on my blog this summer (along with some giveaways) so you will have to check them out and join in on my Cloth Diaper Meme!
